Pot Luck Dinner on Sunday, June 12th

Everyone is invited to a Pot Luck Dinner on Sunday, June 12th! Everyone is asked to bring a main dish or side, all which the NHCC congregation and guests will enjoy directly after worship. After the meal, the everyone is encouraged to stay and listen to a vision update. This update will include a close look at for the future of New Hope Christian Church. Don’t miss the fellowship and the exploration of where we are going!

Why is there so Much Mayhem Happening in the USA?

The recent, chaotic events that have occurred are hard to grasp. I’m thankful to know God is with us, even in such exasperating events! Such ugliness in Texas and in Boston. We must deal with the politics in that realm. But what do we say to our kids & grandkids?

We must talk with them calmly. Be composed, confident in our faith. We remain reassuring. Help them get away from the media. Be proactive and rehearse how and where they can be safe. Expect regression, at least in younger children. Stay with your routines: “Yes, you have to go to school.” Go to church. Be available for them. Direct them to Lamentations 3:19-25. Key words: “hope” and “wait for Him.” As we all say, “Why did he do it?” tell how he must have been very mad and sad and didn’t know how to talk with others about his hurt and anger. Say, "I’m here for you to talk with and I love you.”

How can we save the planet?

Have you noticed that there are troubles in this world? We see them in the home, church, schools, politics and prisons to name a few places. We note it in mass killings, percecutions, incivility, prejudices, and a bundle of other ills that afflict our planet. We try to fix it with votes, edicts, laws, protests, and many other collective means and wonder why it doesn’t improve.

Jesus told us the problem rests in each of our hearts. He spoke of self denial and cross bearing sacrifice as the solution for us. He spoke of a paradox: “He who saves his life shall lose it, but he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.” In this surrender, and there alone, we can find what we crave.

"I'm still not getting what I want." That's the explanation given by a man when asked why he plans to go to court to force churches in England to do something they by conscience can’t do. Living for what I want or for what God wants for me? This is the fundamental struggle human beings have been working through since the beginning. With ourselves at the center of our lives there is no room for our neighbor, none for our enemy, and none for the Lord. Because He is the source of all joy, we must embrace the paradox: We must let go of our life and put it in God's hands. By doing so, we will find life more abundant than we can imagine. Certainly more than any law or legal action could ever bring. The troubles won’t go away until we do. “He who loses his life for my sake shall find it.” Let go and put it all in God’s hands to find life: abundant, joy filled life. It could save the planet.
